HS Boys Hockey: North Branford 6, New Fairfield/Immaculate 2

Nico Giatrelis scored two goals, including the final one in North Branford’s five-goal third period, to lead the Thunderbirds to a 6-2 boys hockey win over New Fairfield/Immaculate Jan. 10 at Northford Ice Pavilion in North Branford. CPTV Sports was there covering four high school games that day and will show the premiere replay Wednesday Jan. 14 at 9:00pm.

North Branford (5-1) led 1-0 going into the third period. The teams traded two goals in the first part of the third before North Branford closed with three unanswered goals, the last by Giatrelis. Mike Pantera, Alec Martone and Brian McKee each had two assists for North Branford. Parker Evans had a goal and an assist for Newtown (2-4).

Will Burke had 16 saves for North Branford, Marchello Carlucci 19 for NFI.

HS Boys Hockey: Lyman Hall/H-K/Coginchaug 4, Newtown 2

Hunter Bolieau scored the second of his team’s goals in the first minute and went on to finish with a hat trick as the Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug co-op boys hockey team defeated Newtown 4-2 Jan. 10 at Northford Ice Pavilion in North Branford. CPTV Sports was there covering the four high school games played at Northford that day and will show the brodacast premiere Thursday Jan. 15 at 9:30 p.m.

It was the first win of the season for LHHKC (1-4), which led 3-0 after the second period and 4-0 after Bolieau’s third goal 4:55 into the third period. Newtown is 2-4.

Zach Lemieux had 21 saves for LHHKC; Kyle Murphy had 19 for Newtown.

HS Boys Hockey: North Haven 3, East Haven 1

Tyler Luedee had two goals and an assist to lead North Haven High to a 3-1 boys hockey win over host East Haven Jan. 7 at DiLungo Rink. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Saturday Jan. 10 at 7:00pm.

J.J. Jensen had a goal and two assists for North Haven (2-3-1). Marty Lendroth scored for East Haven (1-4).

CPTV Sports will be at Northford Ice Pavilion Saturday Jan. 10 for a quadruple-header involving some of CIAC Division II‘s top teams. The schedule: Amity vs. Branford, 2:00pm (broadcast premiere: Tues. Jan. 13, 9:30pm); New Fairfield-Immaculate vs. North Branford, 4:00pm (premiere: Wed. Jan. 14, 9:30pm); Newtown vs. Lyman Hall-Coginchaug, 6:00pm (premiere: Thurs. Jan. 15, 9:30pm); Masuk-Monroe vs. Hand-Madison, 8:00pm (premiere: Fri. Jan. 16 9:30pm).

HS Boys Hockey: Branford 7, Trinity Catholic 0

Tyler Criscuolo scored four goals — recording a hat trick in 2:20 of the first period — to lead Branford to a 7-0 victory over Trinity Catholic in a boys hockey game Dec. 30 in Stamford. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Saturday Jan. 3 at 7:30pm.

Cooper Bunton had three assists for Branford (4-0), which led 4-0 after the first period and 7-0 after the second. P.J. Duddie had 14 saves for Trinity Catholic (1-3).

HS Boys Hockey: Darien 3, Fairfield Prep 2

Darien High jumped out to a two-goal lead in the second period and held on to defeat Fairfield Prep 3-2 in a boys hockey game Dec. 20. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Tuesday Dec. 23 at 7:30pm.

Darien (2-0) won the rematch of last year’s Division I state final, won by Prep 2-1 in overtime. The Blue Wave outshot the Jesuits 35-15 in the matchup of two of the state’s top hockey powers.

Brendan Cassidy and Jake Kirby scored in the second period for Darien. Prep cut it to 2-1 on Vinny D’Amore’s goal with 13.6 seconds left in the period.

Jack Pardue scored the winner for Darien 2:47 into the third period. Prep kept it close with John Edmonds’ goal a minute later.

Jack Taubl had 32 saves for Prep (1-1); Darien’s Will Massie had 13.

CIAC Division III Final: Newtown 2, E.O. Smith/Tolland 1 (OT)

Freshman Scott McLean scored 11:27 into overtime to give Newtown a 2-1 victory over E.O. Smith/Tolland in the CIAC Division III boys hockey championship game March 22 at Yale’s Ingalls Rink. CIAC Division I Final:
Fairfield Prep 2, Darien 1 (OT)

Fairfield Prep junior Vinny D’Amore scored 6:09 into overtime to give the Jesuits a 2-1 victory over Darien in the CIAC Division I boys hockey state final March 22 at Yale’s Ingalls Rink. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Monday March 22 at 7:00pm.

It was Prep’s second straight state hockey title and 16th overall. Darien goalie Michael Colon had 34 saves as Prep outshot the Blue Wave, 36-9. Read the game story from the Connecticut Post’s Andrew Callahan here.

CIAC Division II Final:
Hand 5, Amity 4

Ben Solin scored his third goal of the game with 3:15 left to give No. 13 seed Hand-Madison a dramatic 5-4 victory over Amity-Woodbridge in the CIAC Division II boys hockey final March 21 at Yale’s Ingalls Rink. CPTV Sports covered the game LIVE and will show the replay Monday March 24 at 5:00pm. It will be followed by the broadcast premieres of the Division III final between E.O. Smith/Tolland and Newtown at 7:00pm and the Darien-Fairfield Prep Division I final at 9:00pm. Those games are being played March 22.

It was the second CPTV Sports hat trick of the year for Solin, who had one in a 3-0 win over TriTown Jan. 29. Solin scored twice in the first period as Hand took a 3-0 lead. New Milford 3, Newtown 0


Harrison O’Connell scored two goals and Nick Capriglione had 16 saves in his second shutout of the year as New Milford defeated Newtown 3-0 in boys hockey February 12 at the Danbury Ice Arena. The game was part of the Danbury tripleheader covered by CPTV Sports; the broadcast premiere is Saturday February 15 at 5:00 pm, the first of three premieres. New Milford, the fourth-rated team in CIAC Division II, is 13-3; Newtown, second in Division III, is 9-3-3. CPTV Sports is on Charter 223 and over-the-air digital 49.3 in New Milford and Newtown.

New Farifield-Immaculate 1, Masuk-Monroe 0

Jake Ryan scored in the second period and Ryan Dobos had 30 saves, including a crucial one with 17 seconds left, as New Fairfield-Immaculate edged Masuk-Monroe 1-0 in a boys hockey game February 12 at the Danbury Ice Arena. The game was part of the Danbury tripleheader covered by CPTV Sports; the broadcast premiere is Saturday February 15 at 7:00 pm, the second of three premieres. Masuk (12-3) is the top-rated team in CIAC Division III; New Fairfield-Immaculate (9-4-2) is sixth.
