Class LL semifinals: Suffield 3, Mercy 1


Suffield defeated Mercy 3-1 in the semifinals of the Class LL girls soccer tournament at Middletown High Nov. 11. On Nov. 16, St. Joseph’s-Trumbull defeated Suffield 2-1 in the Class LL final. Suffield ended the 2013 season 19-1; St. Joe’s was 22-0-1.

Class M semifinals: Waterford 2, Tolland 1


Melina Spanos scored twice to lead Waterford to a 2-1 victory over Tolland in the Class M girls soccer semifinals Nov. 12 in Middletown. Waterford went on to win the Class M title, defeating Haddam-Killingworth 1-0 in Middletown Nov. 16. Spanos, a senior, will attend the University of Hartford.

Class S semifinals: Portland 2, Coventry 1


Portland scored twice in the first half as the Highlanders defeated Coventry 2-1 in the Class S girls soccer semifinals Nov. 11 in Middletown. Portland (16-5-1) finished the 2013 season as Class S co-champions after playing Old Saybrook to a scoreless draw in the final Nov. 16.

Oxford High players remember No. 69

Bloomfield High plays in memory of ‘The Bear’


Bloomfield High football players talk about the loss of former Warhawks defensive end Jamar Johnson, who died following a car accident in the summer of 2013. Johnson was entering his sophomore year at Central Connecticut, where he was on the football team.

CCC final: Farmington 2, RHAM-Hebron 0


Colin Cheeseman scored in each half to lead Farmington to a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten RHAM in the championship game of the first CCC boys soccer tournament Oct. 30 in Middletown. CCC West champion Farmington, which went on to win the Class L title, improved to 15-1-3. RHAM dropped to 16-1-2.
