In November 2011, CPTV brought an all-new type of sports coverage to Connecticut with CPTV Sports, a statewide, 24/7 sports channel that covers high school, college and additional sporting events throughout the state.
CPTV Sports (formerly the Connecticut Sports Network) is a not-for-profit channel owned and managed by Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) that broadcasts sporting events and matchups including the state's high schools, state colleges including Hartford, Central, Yale and Post, the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, the Eastern League's New Britain Rock Cats, the Connecticut Soccer League and many other sports including bowling, roller derby, equestrian events.
On April 11, 2012, the channel dramatically expanded its statewide reach, joining the lineups of three cable systems as well as going on over-the-air digitally: On June 13, the channel achieved total statewide franchised cable coverage when it joined the lineup of Metrocast, which serves two areas in eastern Connecticut. Over the air digital: Hartford: WEDH, 24.3; Bridgeport WEDW 49.3; New Haven WEDY 65.3; Norwich WEDN 53.3. CPTV Sports is one of CPTV’s digital channels and will also be broadcast in high-definition television, and will take advantage of CPTV’s unique ability to bring local people and events to exciting life with intimate storytelling and reporting.
